Professional Roofing Inspections
Particularly if you are buying or selling a home a thorough inspection of the homes roof can help you to avoid costly repairs or litigation in the future Essentially, a roof inspection is carried out with a visual inspection of all aspects of the roofing construction, from both the interior and exterior of the structure.

As a rule, a roofing inspector will begin the roof inspection by locating the various dormers, chimneys, crickets, gutters, and any flashing points needing special attention. A closer inspection may be made, especially of the condition of the roof surfacing material — with binoculars for a difficult, higher pitched roof — or by actually accessing a lower pitched, or a flat roof. Obviously the exterior inspection will focus on the condition of the roof surface, exposed flashing, gutters.

A proper roof inspection is also undertaken from inside the structure, as well. Inspection of eves, interior chimney surfaces, fasteners, roof braces, and support materials, such as the condition of the plywood sheathing for a wood roof, is often an indication where closer exterior inspection is needed. A proper roof inspection will take from three-quarters of an hour to several hours, depending on the size and complexity of the roof.

The bottom line is your roof is one of the most important components of your home. Not only does it keep rain and snow out of the home, it also when properly operating allows your home to breathe allowing moisture to escape and reducing the possibility of damage due to humidity and mold.

A few aspects of your roofing system that can be evaluated during a complete roofing inspection may and should include.

·        1. Inspect attic intake vents for blockage

·           2. Inspect attic insulation for proper R-Value

·              3.  Inspect roof for missing shingle granules

·                  4. Check for loose shingles

·                5.  Check to see if shingles are curled brittle, or deteriorated

Roofing Siding Gutters and Insurance Claims.

If you are a homeowner you probably have heard stories of entire neighborhoods being damaged by hail, wind or some there natural disaster. Depending on how your homeowners insurance is written there is a good chance you have a storm damage claim. Making an insurance claim does not guarantee you are going to get a new roof, or have your siding replaced but if you work with a professional qualified Roofing and Siding contractor you can increase your chances dramatically.

Noticeable Hail Damage
Hail Damage is probably one of the most often requested storm damage claims submitted for insurance. When the big storms move thru hail can damage entire neighborhoods. Hail Damage can't be seen very easily most of the time. You usually will never see actual holes or indentations in the roof. Hail will drastically shorten the life of your roof. Even many roofing contractors do not know what to look for when it comes to hail damage.
Hail can damage your roof without any visible signs from the ground. Hail normally has to be the size of a golf ball before it will break through your roof or cause bruising. Sometimes these damages do not show up quickly or are easily overlooked.

Wind Damage is the 2nd most type of storm damage claim submitted. With heavy storms comes hard
blowing winds. These winds can list shingles separate siding or even tear gutters right off your home. Wind damage may be a little easier to spot. It will leave bald patches on a roof where the shingles have been totally separated from the home or siding may be hanging off the side of a home. In either case a qualified roofing and siding contractor can help you thru the process of filing for and settling a claim with your insurance company.
